Recognising Tulika’s dedication to the nursing profession
Tulika is an Enrolled Nurse at our Estia Health Golden Grove home. Having worked at Estia Health for the past eight years, she began her career as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA), before training to become an Enrolled Nurse, which she’s now been for the past two and a half years.
As an Enrolled Nurse, Tulika works closely with the Registered Nurses, led by the home’s Care Director - her role is focused on providing daily nursing care to our residents, which includes administering medication, wound management, the development of resident care plans, as well as supporting both clinical and non-clinical team members, all focused on delivering a safe and efficient service for both our residents.
Tulika mentors the junior team and is an inspiration to those looking to progress their nursing career at Estia Health. She has used her mentoring skills to provide a buddy program for nursing students that complete a nursing placement in the home.
Working in aged care, there are a number of options to progress and develop your career and in the area of nursing, many areas to specialise in. To continue progressing her nursing career, Tulika is now working to complete her Bachelor of Nursing at the University South Australia. This is a big commitment for Tulika, as she studies between working full time, but with her dedication, she has a clear goal she’s striving to achieve.
To continually develop her nursing skills, knowledge and experience, Tulika is involved in a number of clinical improvement committees, including wound and skin care, and she was one of the major contributors that resulted in the home achieving an exceptional outcome in wound healing. This also led the team to receive an Estia Health annual award for clinical excellence as well as the home’s team being a finalist in the category of Clinical Innovation at the ACIA awards in 2018.
Tulika has also engaged with the home’s local Primary Health Network for a project called “Enabling Choice” to advocate for older Australian in aged care and assist them and their families to make the optimal choices for their advanced care. This project gives Tulika the opportunity to build closer connections and act as an advocate to help them make their decision.
This month, Tulika’s dedication and ongoing commitment was recognised; on Friday 7 May Tulika attended the 2020/2021 South Australian Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards and was the winner of the Early Career Nurse/ Midwife of the Year.
As a member of the Estia Health team, Tulika has demonstrated her continued commitment to care for and advocate on behalf of the residents she cares for. Congratulations Tulika, we’re very proud you’re a member of the Estia Health family.
