When the COVID-19 pandemic shook the travel industry in 2020, Mikeala who had been an air hostess with Tiger Airways for four years, suddenly found herself out of a job.
Like all her colleagues, her life changed overnight. But when one door closed, another opened. Estia Health extended an opportunity to Virgin Airways, Tiger Airways parent company, offering their employees roles within the aged care sector. Ready for a new challenge, Mikeala jumped at the opportunity. And she hasn’t looked back since.
Mikeala’s journey at Estia Health began as a Family Liaison Officer, where she happily took on additional administrative duties. Her adaptability, dedication and positive energy quickly proved her to be invaluable, leading to a part-time position in our Bendigo home, where she supported our Client Services Officer in managing admissions. Embracing every opportunity presented to her, in May 2021, Mikeala accepted a full-time role as the Administration Officer at Estia Health Epping.
Her strong work ethic made her stand out, and she was soon called upon to support the Administration team at Plenty Valley before moving to Estia Health Epping in December. This varied experience gave Mikeala not only a comprehensive introduction to Estia Health, but a deep understanding of the culture, something she remains deeply grateful for.
Her dedication didn’t go unnoticed, and in 2022, Mikeala was promoted to Client Services Officer at our South Morang home. Acknowledging the role came with more responsibility, she was eager to step up and embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. As Mikeala put it, “It’s nerve wracking, but I’m so excited.”
After two successful years as Client Services Officer, Mikeala has now proudly stepped into her new role as Client Relations Manager for Estia Health’s Northern Melbourne homes. Reflecting on her journey, she says, “with my experience as a Client Services Officer, I’m eager to continue building strong relationships within the community and with our referral networks.”
Mikeala’s passion for making a positive impact extends beyond our residents and their loved ones; she’s committed to supporting our teams as well. “This role also allows me to make a positive impact not just on our residents and families, but also on our team. Having held roles like Administration Officer and Office Manager, I understand the challenges our teams face. I’m passionate about helping our team thrive in their roles and offer the guidance and mentorship they need.”
Mikeala’s journey at Estia Health is a reflection of the culture and growth opportunities we strive to nurture. From facing the uncertainty of job loss to finding her purpose in aged care, Mikeala’s resilience and dedication have been inspiring every step of the way.
We are proud to celebrate Mikeala and see her flourish, and look forward to the positive impact she will undoubtedly make in her new role.
