Estia Epping, VIC celebrated Greek Day last month in real style.
The day started with entertainment from Jimmy and Suzanne from ‘Accordions Alive!’. They bring so much passion and enthusiasm to their performance and interact very well with residents and staff in the home.
Everyone was involved while they played traditional Greek music, as well as a bit of English and Italian music too. The duo performed in both the Paris and Apollo lounge areas so that everyone had a chance to listen to the beautiful music.
Residents in their rooms were also happy to hear the piano accordion music that filled the hallways. Staff dressed in the colours of the Greek flag (blue and white) and dressed up in Grecian togas as they danced and sang with the residents.
Residents enjoyed traditional Greek food cooked throughout the day by the home’s Chef, Risha, cooking all the traditional dishes from scratch. Morning tea consisted of baklava and kourambiethes (crescent shaped biscuits with icing sugar).
Residents complimented Risha on her Greek sweets, some just assuming they were bought from a shop because they were so good!
Residents began the lunch with a share plate of; dolmades, feta cheese, olives, capsicums and pita bread before the Moussaka was served as a main. Last but not least, galaktoboureko (semolina and filo pastry) was served for dessert. A busy day for Risha and her team! A big thank-you to you all for providing a cultural menu perfect for the day.
