What is short-term respite care?
Respite care offers a short-term option for people requiring care and for their carers who may need a break. It can be accessed in your home, in the community, or in a residential aged care home. All of our Estia Health aged care homes offer residential respite care, giving you the option to join us for a short stay.
Looking after someone requires an incredible amount of commitment and dedication, and there will be times when you, as a supporter, may need to take time away for appointments, a holiday, or simply to rest and recharge. Respite care provides the opportunity to do that, knowing your loved one is being cared for in a safe and supportive environment.
Under the new Aged Care Act, older Australians are placed at the centre of care with greater rights, choice, and respect, ensuring a more inclusive and empowering aged care journey. We look forward to welcoming you to this experience.

How can we help?
Enjoy the peace of mind of knowing your loved one is being cared for by an experienced and compassionate team in a safe and supportive environment. At Estia Health, our clinicians, carers, and hospitality teams support every aspect of a resident’s wellbeing during their stay with us.
We recognise the important role of supporters—family, friends, or others who assist older people with aged care. Under the new Aged Care Act 2024, regular and authorised representatives in My Aged Care become ‘registered supporters’ unless they opt out. This change supports older people’s rights to make their own decisions, while ensuring supporters act within legal limits.
At Estia Health, we understand the demands placed on supporters and the importance of having trusted care options. Respite care allows you to take a well-earned break, knowing your loved one is in capable hands. It also works as a practical way to explore residential aged care, so you can experience what services and the support available look like before making a longer-term commitment.
