Leaving a home full of memories isn’t easy at any age, but Phyllis has always had a gift for making places feel familiar, and it wasn’t long before she found her place with us.
Shortly after Phyllis arrived, Rashmi joined our team as a Lifestyle Assistant. The two hit it off almost immediately. True to form, Phyllis was curious about the new face in her home and asked Rashmi where she was from. “Nepal,” Rashmi told her, and Phyllis’s whole face lit up.
Back in Darwin, Phyllis had been looked after by several Nepalese carers, and she still speaks of them warmly. Meeting Rashmi brought all that fondness rushing back, and the two felt like old friends from the very start.
As they got to know each other, Phyllis began sharing stories from a family trip to Nepal many years ago. One memory in particular, of a young girl whose smile has stayed with Phyllis all this time.
She tells Rashmi often that she reminds her of that little girl. Every visit brings the old memories back, of travelling with her family, discovering new places, and living life fully. Rashmi’s warmth and gentle care have a way of doing that for Phyllis, turning an ordinary afternoon into a trip down memory lane.
Their bond has only deepened with time. There have been quiet days and lively ones, easy days and harders ones, but through it all, their friendship has held steady, the way real friendships do.
These days, Phyllis counts Rashmi among the people she treasures most. It's a bond that speaks to the heart of what we do. When we take the time to really know our residents, care becomes something richer. It’s built on trust and genuine warmth, and it brings joy to all our days.
