Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policy

Policy Statement

At Estia Health we exist to enrich and celebrate life together. We believe health, safety and wellbeing, both physical and mental, is a priority and that no job is too important or urgent that it cannot be done safely. We are in the business of caring, and health, safety and wellbeing is an integral part of everything we do and is everyone’s responsibility. We are committed to a proactive and positive safety culture in which all people play a vital role in the physical and mental safety and wellbeing for all employees, residents, volunteers, students, contractors and visitors. We are committed to providing and maintaining, as far as reasonably practicable, a working environment that is safe and without risks to health and eliminates or minimises work-related hazards and risks.

Policy Principles:

We will be safety leaders

  • Our senior managers will demonstrate visible and meaningful safety leadership
  • Our people will understand how they can contribute to keeping the workplace safe
  • We will stop work when confronted with imminent risk
  • We will encourage and promote physical and mental health
  • We will support our employees to remain at, or return to, safe, sustainable and valued work following injury or illness

We will seek to understand

  • We will understand the work our people do
  • We will provide information and education
  • We will listen to our workforce and actively involve them in decisions that keep them safe
  • We will call out our successes and challenges as opportunities to continuously improve
  • We will regularly review our perfromance and always ask what more can be done
  • We will seek advice from experts (internal and/or external) to enable informed decision making

We will be risk focussed

  • We will have risk visibility to inform our decision making
  • We will always be mindful of risk when we make decisions
  • We will empower our people to make safe choices
  • We will implement innovative solutions to manage our risks and promote physical and mental health
  • We will assure ourselves that our risks are controlled
  • We will ensure we met or exceed applicable laws, regulations and standards

This policy sets out the principles we will follow to keep each other and those that live and visit our homes, safe and well in all the activities we undertake throughout the entire company. Providing a safe workplace enables our organisation to live our values. This is operationalised through the implementation of our Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Management System. Our HSW Management System is integral to our operations and integrates with other business systems and processes where applicable.

This policy applies to all employees, contractors, volunteers and students (and to any other person notified as such). We are committed to complying with the Work Health and Safety Acts and Regulations for the jurisdictions in which we operate, as well as codes of practice and other safety guidance material. The responsibility for managing health and safety ultimately rests with the person in control of the business or undertaking (PCBU), directors and management. All employees have important responsibilities for health and safety in the workplace.
