A masquerade is often about mystery. The Estia Health Hervey Bay Annual Masquerade Ball was about connection.
A masquerade is often about mystery. The Estia Health Hervey Bay Annual Masquerade Ball was about connection.
Over the past few months, our residents carefully crafted the masks they would wear to the ball. Each one was different. Some elegant, some playful, all carrying a little piece of the person who made it.
For many residents, the ball was the moment all those months of preparation had come together. No longer just craft projects, their thoughtfully made masks were part of the celebration.

The best part of the event wasn’t any one thing. It was the way everything came together. Residents arrived dressed for the occasion, enjoyed a beautiful meal, music, and plenty of dancing. There were moments to sit back and take it all in, and just as many to get up, join in, and celebrate together.
The Masquerade Ball turned the home into something residents kept describing as unrecognisable, in the best way. Hilary said she’d never seen the home look so transformed, and the joy in the room was impossible to miss.
Residents from Hervey Bay were joined by family, friends, our team, and residents from Estia Health Gympie. By the next morning, compliments were spilling in. One resident said it was the best time she’d ever had at an event – full stop. Another called it simply “such a lovely day,” mentioning the masks in particular, proud that the ones she’d helped make over the past two months looked, in her words, amazing. Anne, described it as the most elegant experience she’d ever attended.

Families noticed too. Anne, whose mother Judy lives with us, told the lifestyle team their program is “next level”, and that they go above and beyond for every resident, every time, not just on the big occasions.
It’s easy to plan an event. It’s harder to plan one that people are still talking about a week later. That's the part we're proud of. The moments that reflect what we believe every day: that positive ageing isn't about slowing down, it's about continuing to make memories worth talking about.
