The Kilbride Tavern opening

1 November 2022

Back in 2020, our resident Marjorie thought it would be a wonderful idea for all the residents of Estia Health Kilbride to have a Tavern onsite. A place where all the residents and their visiting families could come together and relax when they visited. Plus, somewhere wonderful to hold events like the State of Origin and other football events. Importantly, she was hoping it would be ready in time for Melbourne Cup.

Unfortunately, with the restrictions of COVID-19, plans were put on hold, but it was with great excitement that on 1 November 2022, the new Kilbride Tavern was officially opened. Marjorie of course was front and centre and looked resplendent in her fascinator and gorgeous green jacket befitting the race that stops the nation.

However, the Tavern could not have gotten up and running without the hard work of our incredible employees, specifically Chanel, our Lifestyle Coordinator, Kerry, our Client Service Officer, Trudy our Lifestyle Quality Analyst and John our Maintenance Officer at Kilbride who also happens to be a carpenter. Chanel has worked tirelessly to make the Tavern a dream come true for the residents and even undertook a course on brewing alcohol to make sure she was prepared at the taps! All under the wonderful guidance of Ammar, the Executive Director at Estia Health Kilbride.

Together with Kerry, Chanel decorated the space with greenery, fairy lights, and all the props needed to make it look like an actual bar. Trudy organised all of the furniture and John, known as JP, actually made the bar which is artwork in itself.

On the opening day, there were canapes including ham and tomato quiches, panko crumbed prawns, chicken dim sums, chocolate tarts, lemon curt tarts and profiteroles, thanks to the efforts of Chef Grenville. All washed down with beer, wine and a variety of soft drinks straight from the bar.

And what would a Tavern opening be on Melbourne Cup without a fashion in the fields competition with multiple prizes given out including chocolates and trophies, accompanied by fascinators made by residents.

All in all, a fantastic edition to Estia Health Kilbride and many thanks to the employees and residents for making this happen.
